Summary: Great software but didn't need the upgrade from PS 6 to PS 7...video fun.
Comment: I loved my Photoshop 6 and was very excited to see what was new and exciting about Photo Shop 7 but didn't find much.
This is a wonderful product though and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in photography. The red-eye removal, editing, and enhancing are easy and fun to use. It is fairly simple after you learn your way around and get used to the tools that are provided. It is really fun to manipulate and change pictures. I just take pictures and videos of my family and have a blast with this software. I have created some beautiful nature pictures, used PS to fix them, and framed them as art for our home. Too much fun!! The organization of picture files is really great too. You can find your phots as files or tag them with key words to quickly find them with a "search". You can then make albums and share pictures or videos. PS aslo makes it easy to not only store but burn cd's or dvd's. I would buy this product again without a flinch.

Summary: Good for the price
Comment: I've used pro-license Adobe and Macromedia(now owned by Adobe) products for 9 years now. So I have experience with some of the more complex features of Photoshop. Now with that being said, I'll also mention that not everyone needs to create filters, masks, layers, merge, alpha-transparency, 3D integration, or web and mobile phone optimization. I would think the normal home user is just looking to maybe cut/crop, rotate, touch-up and jpg export for bitmaps. This is where Photoshop Elements would be ideal for the price. Why pay more for stuff you don't need. However, if you plan on venturing more into graphic design and start working with artwork other than bitmaps, such as vector art or AutoCAD drawings, then I would recommend investing in the full version.
As for Premiere Elements, I'll have to admit that I am less experienced with video editing. All of my limited video editing has been through Sony Vegas Studio before this. And the only reason I was able to catch on is because I understood how layers, frames, and time interact from developing with Flash. So I am pretty much your basic user for video. I think Premiere Elements is comparable to Vegas studio for home use. The functions I am most interested in as a basic user are importing different video and sound formats, transition and layering effects, and project export formats. I made a holiday video with Premiere Elements and was satisfied with what I was able to do and the quality of the video. There was a drawback though, which was it being slower than my Vegas Studio. Still, bundled in with Photoshop Elements at this price, I think its good for the price.

Comment: I know this product is powerful cause I have seen what it can do but it's difficult to navigate and learn the product. Especially for the price. It really should be more user friendly. I only used it for Photos and haven't even tried the video part yet.

Summary: A Review By Someone Who Knows What He is Talking About
Comment: After installing and playing around with these programs I decided to wait for the holidays to post a review. My son studied film editing in college, created a music video which made it to the web, and prepares special features for a large church in the Phoenix area. Since he was due home for the holidays I felt the readers of this review could profit from more from his thoughts than my little uninformed opinion.

Photoshop Elements
Program highs: Very intuitive and easy to use. Most users can probably navigate this program without needing to consult a manual. The system offers a robust variety of editing tools to enhance users' pictures. One of the program's best features is a tool that allows you to instantly capture and organize all picture files on your computer.
Program lows: I did not experience any detractors to the software while I was using it

Premiere Elements 7
Program highs: Also very intuitive though user's without a background in film media may need to consult the manual. Like Photoshop it is easy to capture and organize all of your previously stored data. A significant upgrade is the ability to capture media from multiple venues such as DV, CD, Cell phones and more. This versatility will be a boon for users previously frustrated by PC editing programs' compatibility issues.
Program lows: The system experienced some slowness while it was being used, nothing terrible but not quite at the level of Photoshop Elements in speed. The system also experienced a fatal exception while it was being used causing the program to autocrash while editing was in progress. These issues however may be mitigated by ensuring your system meets the proper requirements and that you have plenty of memory to run these programs.
